All new schools have specialised artwork installed somewhere on the campus. We are thrilled that the artist has chosen to feature The Western Swamp Tortoise in our school's artwork, entitled "Always Home".
Listed as endangered under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. These tortoises are delightful and captivating, and we should do all we can to ensure their survival.
An important part of the artwork is the patterning within the cast concrete footings. These will be sandblasted into the surface. The patterns are inspired by the diet, the habitats and the local environment of the Western Swamp Tortoise.
In the words of the artist, "Our aim is that the suite of artworks is like a collage of layered information that encourage enquiring minds to think beyond themselves and invite curiosity and an appreciation of the world around them. Our goal is that they become meaningful and enduring works that are much loved by the children as part of their routine outdoor play".
We can't wait to unveil our artwork to the community next year and learn more about the Western Swamp Tortoise.
